Why Is Your Hair Dry

Why Is Your Hair Dry

I just love my hair. It is frames my face and I can make a lot of different hairstyles on it, but if my hair is not healthy and strong, the hairstyles won’t look good and the hair won’t frame my face so perfectly as before. That’s why I want to talk a little bit about hairs today. And more specifically about dry hairs.

I will tell you a secret: dry hair is not a type of hair, it is a condition of normal hair. This condition can be achieved in many ways. I want to show you which are the basic reasons for dry hair and how to cure it. Take a look:

  • The first condition, and a one that you cannot control is the weather. Both summer and winter can damage your hair and make it dry and fragile. The summer hotness, sun, salty water can frazzle the hair, while the winter cold and electrification damage the hair even deeper. During the summer you also swim in pools, where the water is full of chemicals, which keeps the water bacteria-free and clean. But these chemicals are harsh to the skin, hair and nails.
  • It is nice to take good care of your hair, but sometimes you overdo the caring and the hair can’t handle it. Your hair can get dry because of too many soothing treatments. It is nice to have such treatments, but ask for an advice from professionals about the frequency of the treatments, because the high frequency may cause the hair to become brittle and damaged.
  • Hormones. Those nasty molecules in our bodies that control our physiology and behavior sometimes can get really mean and mess up everything if you don’t pamper them. Due to hormone changes, your body can become really healthy and strong, but it can become damaged and fragile too. The same rule applies to the hair. As women, we have many periods of hormone changes – birth control pills, pregnancy and menopause. These changes may leave a bad effect on the skin and the hair, which includes dry hair too.
  • Choose the right shampoo for your hair. Again, ask your hair stylist to recommend you a proper shampoo for your hair, or visit a dermatologist if you have a bigger problem with the scalp and the follicles. Pour a little bit of shampoo in your hand, a penny size is just enough to clean your hair. Also, don’t use the same shampoo more than a month. Change the brands once in a while.
  • A common (and huge) mistake is to brush your hair while it is wet. When wet, the hair is most fragile and brushing it might cause a huge damage. Instead of the brush, you should use a wide-tooth comb and a leave-in conditioner. This will untangle the knots and once it is dry you will be able to give the hair a proper brushing procedure.
  • And the worst reason of them all is the daily heat styling. The curling iron and the flat iron are great tools that help  you make great hairstyles, but they damage the hair deeply. First rule: Don’t use the heat every day (use it no more than once a week). Second rule: always apply  thermal protector before you stylize the hair with heat. Third rule: buy expensive and good quality tools.
