How to Save Money on Cosmetics

How to Save Money on Cosmetics

Our contemporary society is constantly urging us to spend more and more money or irrelevant purchases. Consumerism is attacking us from everywhere, as magazines, blogs and vloggers are showing us tons of products and clothing items that are very cool and trendy. However, sometimes a girl needs to stop and think for a second: “Do I really need all these new things?”. Not many of us can afford going on a shopping spree every week, especially when we are talking about more expensive brands. In case you are somewhat pressured by your income and cannot splurge too much on cosmetics, then you have come to the right place. We have tried to compile a simple strategy on how to save money and be more sustainable with your makeup, body care, hair care and skincare product collections!

  • First of all, you can always use one product as more than one thing. If you have been following our website, you might have learned about some of the most useful purchases you can make. Coconut oil can be a great moisturizer, body lotion, shaving product and hair conditioner. Just 100 ml of it can help you out for more than a month in each department! Also, conditioner, especially if it is a cheaper one and with a dense consistency, can work great as a shaving cream: very useful for the summer season! Vaseline is another product that lots of celebrities and bloggers are swearing by!
  • The second tip for someone who wants to save up money on cosmetics is to go into the kitchen and embrace the DIY strategy! You will not believe the opulence of recipes that you will find online. Eggs, olive oil, avocados and vinegar are just a few of the great helpers when you need a nourishing hair treatment. Honey, lemon and baking soda will be useful if you want to make a face mask. Sugar or salt, mixed with olive oil or coconut oil, make great face and body scrubs. As a whole, homemade cosmetics have become a huge thing and are really popular for three reasons. Number one: they save tons of money when you do not want to buy a new product. Number two: they can help you in an emergency when you realize you have run out of conditioner, mask or something else and you need a quick replacement. Number three: they are natural and clean, so you do not have to worry about parabens and other harmful ingredients.
  • Next, you need to be prepared when going to the store. Avoid going into drugstores, pharmacies and cosmetic shops without a clear idea of what you need to buy. If you realize what you need and go straight for particular aisles, you will not be distracted by shiny packaging or tempting offers. Stick to your list and to known or recommended products, because experiments will increase the risk of wasting funds.
  • The next tip might seem simple, but can be quite hard to achieve: you need to try and use up your products! We often end up with too much make up with a passed expiration date. You should own only one product when it comes to things like bronzer, mascara, eyeliner, foundation and concealer: after all, you do not need more than one of them, to be honest! The only things you need a variety of are probably eyeshadows, lipsticks and blushes. Nevertheless, keep your collection tidy or will suddenly have to throw everything away and renew your collection, so that you do not irritate your skin.
  • Maybe you can go for more expensive, but high-quality products once in a while. One or two purchases will not break the bank, but can make a difference and be a good way to boost your beauty routine. Choose a product that is something either important, like a moisturizer or conditioner, or long-lasting, like bronzer. Shower gels or body lotions are not worth it!
  • Finally, you need to realize what your organism needs, so that you only buy the right products. Most probably you do not need a salicylic acid mask if you have dry skin or a mask for blonde hair when you are currently a red-haired girl. Consult a professional when building your beauty routine.
