Delicious Substitute for Dessert? Smoothies!

As summer has arrived, we have become even more body conscious than before. Probably you, just like us, are feeling slightly pressured to limit the pizza, the sandwiches and high-calorie foods as a whole and go on a slightly healthier diet. Sometimes it is quite hard to prepare healthy and diet food which also tastes delicious. If you are a veggie lover – great, than it is easy for you to start a regime and lose a few pounds in the last weeks before vacation time has arrived! However, some of us have our cravings and want something sweet to make us feel happier and even bring a relaxing vibe to our busy daily routines. Still, it is no secret that a chocolate soufflé is not the low-calorie desert you can go for – it can be about 350-400 calories. Not to mention that all the ice-cream, frozen sorbet and so on are the typical summer temptations. So how can you get your little portion of sweetness without feeling guilty afterwards? There is a great solution to the problem and it is smoothies!

Smoothies are a great idea for a desert for a few reasons. First of all, they provide you with lots of energy that you will need whatever you do. Second of all, it is healthy and supplies your organism with tons of healthy nutrients. Last but not least, they are tasty and will help you out with your cravings for sweet foods. All you will need is a good blender, the ingredients for each smoothie and a minute of your time. Let’s have a look at some ideas for tasty smoothie recipes:

  • Strawberry Cheesecake Protein Smoothie: This nice little smoothie consists of half a cup of milk, a little Greek yoghurt, a zero calorie sweetener like Stevia, a few strawberries, some ice and maybe a little vanilla extract. Not only is the taste great, but also it has the vitamin C and the protein you need to get your day started in the morning or refresh you in the afternoon!
  • Key Lime Smoothie: The green color of this smoothie screams fresh and healthy! Put a frozen banana, a few baby spinach leaves, a spoon of lime juice, the zest of a lime, a few drops of vanilla extract, a date, some almond milk or any kind of milk you usually consume and blend everything together! You can crush some graham crackers to decorate the glass or pour them over the smoothie.
  • Peanut Butter Banana Smoothie: Peanut butter and bananas are a typical combination for the fans of sweets. Break two bananas into chunks and throw them into the blender together with half a cup of peanut butter, one or two cups of milk, two tablespoons of honey and two cups of ice cubes. You will be amazed at how tasty and enjoyable this drink can be! Not to mention that it can prepare you for a workout or can be used as a post-workout snack too.
  • Pumpkin Pie Protein Smoothie: As you can see tons of desserts can be transformed into healthy smoothies: just like a pumpkin pie! Mix a frozen banana, about a hundred grams of Greek yogurt, a little ground cinnamon and pumpkin pie spice, a hundred milliliters of skim milk, two tablespoons of pure maple syrup, 150 grams of pumpkin puree and a cup of ice cubes. In the blender it will be transformed into an orange delicious drink!
  • Blueberry Pie Smoothie: The last dessert – drink on our list is based on a blueberry pie. All you need is to throw the following ingredients in a blender: a can of light coconut milk, a cup of frozen blueberries, a banana, a quarter of a cup of rolled oats and chopped pecans, two tablespoons of pure maple syrup, a little vanilla extract, ground cinnamon and nutmeg. After you have blended the drink, you can add two tablespoons of shredded coconut for decorations.
